So I've noticed several patios/lanais have TV's installed, outdoors but under roof and I'd like to try this tool

Is there any special considerations for this? Ie do certain types of TVs work better / last longer in these conditions?

Any recommended maintenance?

Thanks in advance,

Calvin

A friend of mine did this recently. He works in the marine industry so I asked if the TV was a special application one. He said that TVs are so inexpensive now that he didn't worry about it and just used a typical off the shelf one. He did have some very nice covers made for them though!

We use a 32" RCA flatscreen w/dvd that we had at our TX house. Bought it in 2010 -- that model had very good ratings in general on-line but was "indoor" TV. We hang it on back wall of lanai (vs stand on cabinet) so it can swivel and doesn't get direct sun or rain blow, but it really can't escape the general humidity or heat.

I ordered a nice lined, vinyl-type cover to store it in because we put it in closet when we aren't there. Initially we would cover it during heavy rains but my husband said that probably didn't make much difference. We have been surprised there have been no problems during 3 yrs of use -- it stayed out from middle of May to middle of August this time.

Suggest you get model/brand that handles glare well. Some flat screens don't. Our back wall is maybe 12 ft from edge of lanai roof but there is still glare at times. Our TV has matte screen which helps-- very few do now. Look for good audio/sound too unless you plan to use external speakers.

You can use any kind of TV under a roof in a lanai. Just try to put it in a corner or inside wall, wherever it gets the most protection.

Save a few bucks and pass on the new 4Ks, or even most 1080s, imo...
Larger is better, as in the 32/40s are small for sports, but it depends on one's mounting spot, lanai layout, etc.

Glare is a problem, unless your lanai faces north or east.

As most have lots of apps, a less app'd/less gizmo'd lower echelon level of a good brand will be a bargain and QPR.

For most viewing, it is sports, news, occasional movie and 'having it out there' vs serious indoor watching in our experience. And, get outdoor speakers for music and optional TV sound, imo...

You can use a firepit cover with elastic around it as an inexpensive cover. It won't look as tailored, but it will not cost so much either, I ordered mine online from ace hardware for less than $20

TV's are so cheap now putting them outside is not a problem. No special brands or precautions needed.
