I'd rather buy a laptop, because it would be cheaper, it comes with a screen and keyboard, no other expenses. The graphic card and specs overall won't be great, but it would allow me to play some games here and there.
If I were to buy or build a desktop, it would be more expensive and I would also have to buy a monitor, keyboard, etc.
Or I could just buy a ps4 console, but problem here is the games are expensive and you have to pay a membership to play online. I need a computer anyway, the one I have is 10 years old.
Thing is I've been spending on other stuff lately, so even though I can afford to buy a new system with cash, I feel like I shouldn't, and maybe I should wait till next black friday or something. I'd rather buy something decent that can last me many years.

I hate laptops when they are used outside the 10% of purpose they are designed for, and gaming is not in that 10%. That they are universally popular even when never used anywhere but on one desk or table is a triumph of marketing and perceived value over reality.
Buy a desktop system and put your initial money into the essentials - CPU, video card and monitor. Upgrade everything else over time. (And gosh, you CAN upgrade a desktop, unlike most laptops.)
Device mobility and flexibility is everything to me. I would rather get a high performance gaming laptop than be tied down to a desktop and sit at one place.
It depends a lot on what you want to play. Graphics-intensive games pretty much require a good graphics card and those can put out a lot of heat. If you just enjoy lightweight games with pixelated graphics, then a laptop is fine.

You do know that there are laptops out there with a GTX 1080 gpu right? There's even 2 or 3 of them with dual GTX 1080. Plenty of power to run just about any AAA game at acceptable frame rates. Especially if the laptop uses a 1080p screen.

You have a lot to learn.
A GOOD gaming laptop is going to cost MORE then a similar desktop. You pay for that portability. If you want to SAVE money and game well, you get a desktop.
I paid $1,300 for a gaming laptop. I could have spent $1,000 onm a desktop for the same level of gaming. Of course, I couldn't just throw my desktop in a bag and huff it over to a buddies to play some Battlefield in the same room together.
PS Desktops almost always come with Keyboards and mice.
