Check out Mill Creek north of Seattle. It's the older well kept homes and has very nice trails, established trees, etc. Very safe, lots of walking at night. Not sure about the personalities of people though. Might be too conservative for you. I think it's a 30-45 min drive depending on where you are working.

Same for Edmonds-north of Seattle but maybe more liberal and a great downtown area with lots of shops and local eateries.

We looked at houses in Mill Creek but ended up in Mulilteo instead because it was closer to the water.

Reader33, nice, I will check those out, thank you. I do like the water too, just not sure how expensive that is...budget for a home is around $475k

Edmonds street views look good, how liberal is it? Is it like San Francisco Haight-Ashbury? I don't mind liberal just not in your face liberal...if that makes any sense.

Edmonds is not Haight Ashbury liberal. Liberal, but not in your face liberal.

That works. I lived in Long Beach for a while, that seemed like a good balance to me.

I dunno. I know someone with a PhD who lives in Edmonds. I bet there's some people who were born in Asia that live there too.

Housing is down in thoses area so I'm sure you could find something nice in that price range. Edmonds has a big variety of older and newer smaller houses around that downtown area that might suit you. Check out the "walkability" scores on zillow if you find a few things to check out-most scores over 50 are going to be decent walking areas.

Have the police been informed of this?

Hey man, disregard the snotty, judgmental comments of some of these posters. I totally understand what you are looking for and why. I was around the Green Lake area this weekend, and there were a lot of people out and about, and it seemed very much like a predominately white - middle/upper-middle class area.
You can find out demographics and statistics on certain suburbs and neighborhoods if you look online. I'd also recommend you check out crime maps, and, even if you don't have kids, find out about the locals schools, it will tell you a lot about the residents.
