To my surprise, when we got here, I found I liked the feel of different areas better, and others not quite as much. For example, unlike most people I think, I did not like Kirkland at all, everyone squished together gave me the willies ... and Bridle Trails had such dark houses ... we are in a Redmond townhouse, and the closeness also is too much, and Redmond seems to be mostly townhouses ... so maybe we will have to forego those close up suburbs, sigh.

So now we are exploring Woodinville, Sammamish and Issaquah, prefer the plot sizes. Woodinville is up first so I have a question. There are two roads into it by the looks of it - the 202 (roughly running from Sammamish River, crosses it at some point), and the Avondale one. Can anyone tell me what the commute is like? Which gets worse jammed up traffic? (like most people, we are travelling to ms main campus in Redmond)

Sammamish looks to be the worst commute potentially ...

Issaquah, I don't know. Would you include all the communities up against the base of those mountains?

We live in Woodinville and my husband works at MS main campus. He takes the 202. Average commute time is around 30 min.

I'm in Sammamish and many of my neighbors work at MS. It's actually not a bad commute at all, either a short hop on 520 or the back way to 520 via Bel-Red Road, then you have the choice of East Lake Sammamish to Inglewood Hill, or 202 to Sahalee Way. Depending on the time of day either can back up some in the afternoon but it's still not bad compared to
the longer, almost always jammed up trip to/from Woodinville. Most days 20 minutes plus whatever time it takes to get to/from your house from 228th in Sammamish. I would not suggest Issaquah because you have to go around the lake, about 10 miles additional, though some Issaquah residents do that commute by bike and cut through Marymoor Park.

I live in Woodinville and love it. The home lots are typically +/- an acre there which is not so common in the other locations. Probably the most logical thing would be to take test runs from each location during what you anticipate will be your typical commute time and get a true idea which is best.

We've been surprised by ... no traffic jams so far, anywhere. Maybe everyone is on summer holiday?

I'm a little more tempted by the 202 because of proximity to the Sammamish River Trail. However, I notice a lot of farms on the land right next to the trail. Anyone have any idea whether it is possible to access the Trail between properties, etc. What are the access points between the 202 and the Sammamish River Trail?

Yes, this is typically the lightest commute week if the year, with people jamming in a late vacation with the holiday at the end before school starts. Wait until you have those people all back and the addition of school buses that stop with the flashing red lights on many of the roads and you will see our real traffic.

We live in Woodinville too, and love it. Bought a place just over a year ago. Really awesome.

A few places that actually stay open past 9 wouldnt be the worst thing though

I really hope they don't try to overdevelop it and ruin the place ... I love it just the way it is now honestly.

You can for sure enter the Sammamish trail on 145th in Woodinville (Right by the roundabout)

There are also some access points further north, as well as in the Redmond direction
