So I was in Alabama this week at a family gathering, and they had a huge mansion house a top lots of acreage and trees.

Where are there mansions in Washington that would ~6,000 - 10,000 sqft and let's say under $1mn

This is a hypothetical question, as obviously I won't be able to just relocate anywhere within Washington, but I'm just curious.

Not in the Seattle area, where $1 million is a large home, but not mansion, and not on acreage. Areas with lower prices have fewer mansions but you might find one or could buy land and build one just about anywhere east of the Cascades, South of Olympia, or north of Everett.

You can still find some larger homes on 5 acres in places like Snohomish for under a $1M. These are more 'McMansion' than real mansion however. Really big houses aren't as popular here, so most of the cheap 'fake' luxury homes in that price range are under 5000 sq ft. More what I'd call "redneck mansions". The people buying real mansions tend to pay a lot more, and/or they're typically in neighborhoods with lake or sound views - not stuck out the middle of nowhere on a huge lot.

You could get something older from the 1970's. They tend to need a lot of work so they're relatively inexpensive now. I saw a huge 7000 sq ft 1970's estate near Lake Stevens on 10 acres that sold for under $500K. Bet it wasn't in great shape though.

I don't know if you'll find anything like the plantation homes of the south in Washington state. The homes that large here will be way over $1MM. You can find some in the San Juans or private islands in the Sound. But they also won't usually be in the style of a plantation home.

I don't believe the OP said anything about a "plantation."
There are very few plantations today, even in the South.

There are some around here in the Woodinville area although at slightly higher prices than $1m.

I know of one that *might* qualify that is around 7000 sq ft on 2 acres and was a bit above $1.1m.

RVD.

Sorry, should I have said "plantation style home"? The south - particularly Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina - have large antebellum homes you won't find here. When the OP referenced southern mansions in Alabama, that is what I'm picturing.
