I'm a 34 year old white male from the Los Angeles,CA area who is seriously considering moving to Seattle. In the past two years I have vacationed in Seattle 3 times. Two of those 3 times were during wintertime so Im well aware of Seattles winters.

Currently I have a girlfriend who is 33 years old but she wants to move with me to Las Vegas instead of Seattle. My girlfriend has never been to Seattle.

The reason me and my girlfriend want to leave the LA area is because apartment rents in LA are like $2200 a month for a one bedroom apartment in the San Fernando Valley area.

I know Seattle isn't cheap but its still cheaper than LA.

Everytime I visited Seattle I went to Pike place market, capital hill, Seattle waterfront, Queen Ann, U district, space needle, pioneer square and the art museam.

Currently in LA I live with my parents. My girlfriend lives with her parents.

In Seattle I really like the great restaurants, great shopping, great museaums and nice people.

Currently I'm unemployed in LA and going to night trade school for computer technician. I also hold a BA in radio-tv-film. My girlfriend works with special needs adults.

LA has rude people and no real culture like Seattle does. Seattle reminds me of San Francisco.

Would Kirkland be a good choice for us to live?

I'm also a nerdy guy who wears glasses and has aspergers.

Me and my girlfriend don't have any friends or family in Seattle

The restuarants, bakeries, donut shops and shopping is much better in Seattle than the LA area for some reason.

You sound like my kind of people. I am 35 and in school for computer science and am hoping to move there with my 30 year old GF we live in Tucson. I know this comment isn't much help but thought I would throw it out there anyway

I have been to Phoenix and Tucson many many times. Seattle is more interesting.

Finish your night school training, first. There are jobs in Seattle, but it is extremely competitive.

I'm assuming one reason for moving is so you and your girlfriend can afford to move in together. While rents are lower in Seattle than in L.A., they aren't that much lower, especially in areas that you'd probably be looking at, such as Capitol Hill - it's more a difference of running out of money in eight rather than in six months.

I'd recommend finishing your training and then looking for a job in Las Vegas. You're close enough that you could fly or bus there for interviews. Rents are cheap enough (under $700 for a one-bedroom) that you could save money even if not making a lot of money.

I was in Las Vegas for over five weeks earlier this year - we went to one or two music acts every week. They often have discounts for locals. I recommend Ron Decar's Event Center for some great jazz. You won't be bored. Just don't gamble your money away. There are lots of places to visit, with Death Valley, Zion, Bryce, the Grand Canyon, and other national parks within driving distance. Once you've saved $15-20,000, then consider moving to Seattle if you've still got the hankering.

While my girlfriend does have some great friends of hers in Las Vegas, Seattle sounds more exiting and interesting to me. Living in Las Vegas is suburban living. Many las vegas locals don't go to the strip ever. Locals live in green valley ranch or sumerlin.

I would advise you look into Tacoma and visit Seattle on the weekends, and it will give you the opportunity to get a start in your career plus save up money. On the other hand, you may not want to Jeopardize your relationship by moving somewhere she doesn't want to be...
