When I thought Ballard was so far away from everything that I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to live there! Now I'm there and thankful to be so close in! :-)

Having to explain to anyone who didn't live on the west coast where Seattle was and no, it's not Washington DC. In Europe I would say "Have you heard of Nirvana? That's where I live."

When I didn't have to book a campsite 6 months in advance or just forget about it.

God, I'm getting old!! :-)

Last Exit on Brooklyn, home of memorable people, pie, and ice cream.

Parker's Ballroom. Saw BB King there.

The PPC store in Ravenna, just north of 65th, at 20th.

Cause Celebre ice cream on 15th.

Lou Piniella. Edgar Martinez. The Kid. Dave Niehaus. Bobby Ayala, the relief pitcher who screwed up nearly every single time.

I have many happy memories of Last Exit! And the pie...

Waaaay back in the day:
When the Smith Tower was the tallest building west of Chicago and north of San Francisco.
When there was only one floating bridge across Lake Washington.
When there was no I-5 or I-405 and yet it was easier to get around.
When $10,000 a year was a really good salary.
When gangs and crime were something only those on the East Coast had to worry about.
When the Seattle Rainiers and the Totems were the only pro (minor league) teams in Seattle and just about anyone could afford the ticket prices.
Drinking swamp waters (half orange, half root beer) at the A&W.
When downtown Seattle wasn't overrun with panhandlers during the day and druggies at night.
When nobody said 'back in the day.'
Probably a lot more, but my aged brain has forgotten a lot.

Hanging out on Capitol Hill at:

1) Andy's Cafe
2) Bloch's
3) The Elite Tavern
4) The Gas Light Tavern
5) The De Luxe Bar & Grill
6) The Jade Pagoda
7) Ernie Steele's

Those were the days. Only the De Luxe is still in business.

I loved Ernie Steele's. The murals were amazing. The food? Not so much. But it was cheap, and the ambience couldn't be beat. Hard to tell which was the greasier of the greasy spoons, it or Andy's.

I went to the Deluxe about a year ago. They still make great burgers.

You are really funny. I don't think I've ever seen someone write in a French accent trying to do Norwegian, heh heh.

The Dog House downtown circa 1991

Bad food, crusty service - a great time with friends after the clubs closed. Those were the days!
