Sweet tea is wretched, vile stuff...and I say that as somebody who's maternal grandmother was born and raised in NC.

I wonder if drinking sweet tea daily in the south (Which is an assumption based on this threads info only) since it is hot and sweaty down there, has any negative lasting side effects on young children as they age (Obesity, Diabetes, Teeth) Not that the soda pop consumption anywhere else in the US is less ridiculously filled with sugar. It all sound so Un-refreshing.

Much like the substitution of juice (which is a sugar bomb) for soda pop, since its "healthy"....

Here is Japan they are fanatics about coffee in the can. Hot in the winter, cold in the summer and usually lip ripping bitter. They do however love the big american coffee chains (SBux, Tully,) but more for the social hang out then the coffee junkie needs like myself. I love going in and ordering a quad mocha on those mornings that need an extra uummphf, the little barista is in shock!!

I've often wondered the same thing. As I said in my previous post, my maternal grandmother was from NC, and I still have family there...there is no history of diabetes on that side of my family, however that doesn't mean answer the question... Anyway, it would be interesting to find a study on the health effects of sweet tea.

There is an entire thread devoted to sweet tea, and from my experience and the discussion in this thread sweet tea is a staple of the South.

I think people mostly drink it at restaurants, though some brew it in the summer at home. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who drinks it every day.
To me, it's just as bad for you as soda, and not as good, so I usually don't drink it.

I sure don't get it. Starbucks regular stuff is pretty nasty stuff, where they hire Michael Phelps types as roasters( maybe they can swim but then take another bong hit forgetting to shut off the roaster), so the end result is nasty, vile, and overpriced...Their instant stuff is going to be that good? Mmmmm!

It mystifies me why Starbucks doesn't wholesale switch over to the brew of their subsidiary, Seattle's Best, which is very good IMO.

LOL! Ira500, you're a true Seattle coffee snob. Good man! I personally can't stand Charbucks coffee. I'm definitely a smooth, medium roast coffee drinker. Cafe' Ladro is probably my favorite place for a latte, but I've definitely cut back on my coffee spending lately and have been mooching on free coffee from work, or brewing my own.

Here's an open question. Is freezing your beans good or bad? I usually buy the bulk bags from Costco. What's the best way to store the beans so your coffee doesn't get bitter?

Freezing your beans is fine if you're not going to drink them fairly quickly...Best, of course, is to drink the stuff within a week or so after it's been roasted, so if it's going to get consumed within a few days, refrigerate them or keep them on the counter, but longer than that, the freezer is fine.
I'm not sure, but I vaguely recall reading that it's good to let them sit at room temperature after taking them out of the freezer.
