Apr 1, 2021 — Authorized excuses include a positive COVID test, waiting for test results, self-quarantine, symptoms, and being in a high-risk group.
That failed for me, so YMMV.

I've been called 4 times for jury duty and I've dutifully responded each time. Never got chosen to be on a jury, so it's all a big waste of time. Then I got a summons about 9 months ago when they started doing trials again. This was before vaccinations and with Covid rampant, I just did not want to be in a big group of people. My buddy told me that he's been blowing off the summonses for 20 years and nothing ever happened, so I just ignored this one. Haven't heard back yet, but I'm sure I will someday. They can't prove you received the summons.

The whole system is still in Covid turmoil. If you get a summons you probably can expect no expectation that you will serve, atleast in person. But they are trying to keep normalcy. Good luck with that.

I was called to superior court in Kent back in the recession, when I owned a business and no longer had any employees. Even that was not sufficient hardship to get out of it, my request was denied. With Covid it's changed. My wife had jury duty in Federal Court, but two days before they cancelled it due to Covid and she got off.

My husband is a mental health counselor and he sent a letter saying how his patients really need him right now with the rise of mental illness during COVID times. He was excused. Just be honest.

The last time I got a jury summons was to the county courthouse on 3rd in downtown Seattle. I did not want to go, having heard so much news about assaults in that area. Even the King County Sheriff has spoken of an "unsafe environment around the courthouse...."

Of course you can't carry a gun or even pepper spray to the courthouse to protect yourself.

I threw the summons in the trash. I never heard anything back about it.

Actually you can. You just have to check it with the officer at the door. They should have a little locker to put it in and you get the key.

I had jury duty in Tacoma long time ago. Five full days of having to be at the jury room with about 150 others. Everyone yaking, noisy. Only place to eat was the lousy McDonalds.

Went up and down the stairs (no taking the elevator for jurors) and was never selected. I did regret not being selected on the jury where the young mother put bleach in her infant's eyes, blinding the child. Oh I would have LOVED to be on that one.

But when they ask you where you work/worked and you have to tell them the US Attorney's office. Hard pass from the defense...tsk tsk.
