Overall , there are some things you should look into , just in case. Forget about the bunker concept.
1. Buy some gold and silver
2. Move out of the city
3. Think about moving to New Zealand
4. Install alternative energy power source.
5. Store up diesel fuel and propane
6. make a close pact w/ friends and neighbors , know who your enemy's are , stay clear.
7. have no debt , pay cash for everything.
8. dry food , plant a garden , store staples , salt , water , ( your own well )
9. Install a gate , and live on a private road. keep gate closed all the time.
10. get your mail in town , with a PO box . ( UPS best )
11. Do not use cable , or fixed line phones. Wireless Internet only.
12. Build your house on high ground , where you have a good view. Mountain top best, w/ 360 view
13. have more than one way out , should you need to escape.
14. A good dog or two , get some Ginny hens.,
15. learn first aid , have medical supplies well stocked
16. bank and invest on line , nothing local.
17. use the barter system as much as you can for what you need and want.
18. Ebay for selling and buying.
19. never bring strangers to your home.
20. grow a beard , do not share photos of your self.

Default The hole in the wall couple

Here's our hole in the wall, we're about 6,000' up, we can see vehicles coming for miles, there's a back door for escape, plenty of space for two people with provisions and generator and television and radio, it's up high enough for great reception or transmission of radio/tv signals, and best of all, it's a tough climb and has cactus all around to deter would be visitors. we're ready. you should move to new mexico, because there's nothing of strategic value here except roswell and white sands.

Ours has tress and water...unfortunately we haven't finished it inside...

It would need to be hardened to survive attacks by the zombie hordes.

From the deck,a person would be able to see anyone heading towards the property on the private road,we are also the only building back there.

LOL, this makes me think of the South Park episode where homeless people, characterized as being zombies, invade the town. They keep begging for "change" and if you give them any they want more and many more come around asking for "change".
Will we be overrun by hordes of homeless zombies chanting "change, change, change."
Oh My God......

A case can be made for safety in numbers. The City does provide that as you become less noticeable
The problem is , too many have nots wanting " their share " can produce a dangerous scenario. The other problem is the ability to survive in an unnatural environment.
Remote places and lots of tree cover hide a lot of things. Google Earth will not show much if you have dense tree cover.

The zombie hordes, while numerous ARE stupid...drop a few trees across the road and when they stop and get out....bang.

And besides, whose business is it if I want to build my own house and I screw up? Mine. But some people don't like personal responsibility and want someone else to accept responsibility. It's not "your" fault you bought a shoddy house, it's the "inspector" or whoever.
it's so true. my standards are way above code i built a 3 foot thick stone extereior wall around our house it weighs about 400 tons reinforced with 400 rebars 3000 psi concreat core i love that wall it's one of a kind and i never have to paint and looks great but still would like a small underground safe room stockpiled in cace of civil unrest a last stand alamo!

thats cool i allways wounderd why they dont plant cactus around prisons. cause when the prisoners try to escape they would have to run thru the cactus and would be so injured they would have to go to the hospital and would be easily be identified
