I have to agree with you, I've seen many washers with and without agitators, or front end loaders, that are equally cheap even though you've paid 1,000 for or more.

The thing about the Speed Queen is, they turned it around and allowed me to see the back of the mechanism and those heavy duty full length springs that also hold in the barrel....amazing how well built they are, and since I've had it, hasn't yet, spun off balance, and it spinds the cloths really dry.

Washing machines are not cheap, they are an investment....as well as other appliances....I bought a Bosch front loader that was expensive and built very cheap and didn't take long for it to get that sour oder around it....

But again, we keep buying this cheap stuff and never complain, we just keep buying it, as long as we are compliant, they are not going to change....so? Whose fault is it?

My friend bought a very expensive refrigerator, and had nothing but problems with it, and my DIL bought the same frig and has some minor problems with it....it's best to do your homework and research for a few days...and listen to others and their stories...pick out the cronic comlainers vs the legitament complaints....

Yes!!!!!
I have water heater that came with the house l bought in 2000. It was (estimated) to be at least 15 years old. That's 38 years and works great!!
Not only that! It had a PINK electric stove. That was put in when the house was built in 1950. The stove was in pristine condition when I bought the house. Still had manual and receipt from the store inside.
When I finally decided to remodel the kitchen in 2007, I sold the stove to a vintage appliance collector. Got good money for it.

yes, I oft times think of this, it's a real shame, how they know they can make more money by "not" making appliances and cars durable...cars were the same way, back then....boy I would love to see that vintage stove....loved them....we had one when I was growing up....loved it...

Maytag is not what it used to be, if you go into Lowes, Home Depot or other appliance online stores and read the reviews, they are not good, yes, indeed SQ's are expensive, but no more than the higher end washing machines, you get what you pay for and the warrenties are much better which proves the durability of the machine. In the long run, you'll save money. I felt like you did and went thru 4 washing machines in 15 years, no more, I took the advice of a washing machine repair guy and bought one...wish I had done so way before. These machines are made cheaper so you have to purchase another oftner, they don't want to give the public a bang for their buck...and here's something I didn't know...the government are the ones who made manufactures of these machines use less water, and less water certainly isn't getting your clothes clean...On the SQ there is an Eco setting, don't use it...and it will fill to the top....when you see the back of the Speed Queen and how heavy the machine is made, it's got huge springs all around the barrel....plus it is a much heavier machine then most.
