America isn't Europe
The American System makes more money. The NFL makes more than twice money than the Premier league (Despite Man U having "a billion" fans.), Even the MLB makes much more money than the Premier league.
I dont think it has anything to do with the "American system" as you say making more money being the reason that MLS has no promo/relegation. MLS ranks 18th according to wiki.

The MLS is also the 5th highest grossing league in North America.
The Highest Grossing Baseball league makes more money than the Highest Grossing Soccer league, despite soccer being more popular, and the EPL claiming to be a global league. The MLB business model is simply better.

First of all, I agree that MLS system makes business sense.
But you aren't comparing apples and apples there. England is much smaller than USA (+Canada), so no surprise that US top league makes more money. Majority of revenue comes from domestic sources, in every league.
Also Americans are much more willing to use taxpayer money to grow pro clubs. State of art stadiums, built mostly with taxpayer money. Some teams like Indiana Pacers even get direct tax payer payments each year.
It's not so much the lack of promotion and relegation or whatever that makes more money, but America. It's big, and its tax payer money flow freely into pro leagues.
But that said, pro/rel is no good for a young league. Especially in a country like America. Imagine asking Kansas City municipaly for money for a stadium if there's promotion / relegation: "Hey KC, please give us 230 mil to build a stadium for our minor league soccer team, which might become a major league soccer team one day, if everything goes well, or maybe not."
No owners would pay 100 mil MLS expansion fees either.

Making money doesn't make it a better league, the fact that the EPL is popular across the whole globe is what makes it a better league, it appeals to billions whereas American sports tend to only be popular in the US.

The whole point of pro sports is to make money, so yes $$$=success.
NFL is the Most successful sports league in the world

This statement goes to show why sports in the US is so wrong, it probably also goes to show why it is so unsuccessful outside the US. The whole point of pro sports is NOT to make money! Its sport not a business! Sport is supposed to be an entertainment, lt is in the leisure industry, the NFL is NOT successful anywhere other than the USA, the USA is not the world by a very long chalk! The US is very successful at exporting popular cultures EXCEPT sports you must ask yourself why? What is it doing that is so wrong when it comes to sport?
