Greenville is cheaper, but I'd say Asheville is more interesting in just about every way.

I think Greenville has a much better downtown area than Asheville. It also has more shopping.

THere are a lot of people who move to Greenville after originally planning to move to Asheville. They visited Greenville on the way to or back from visiting Asheville and liked Greenville better.

We agree here. I love Greenville's downtown area.

I can find two different places in Charleston alone radically different places to live. The OPs question is unanswerable.

Different local cultures, but in terms of uniqueness, you're talking about two of the most distinctive for their sizes in the country.

And without the University of Texas....What does Asheville have again? I passed through last March and the place was barely worth stopping in.

How would you know if it was worth stopping in if you only passed through, presumably on the interstate? Asheville isn't a popular tourist destination for nothing.

Northern VA has some contemporary Northern traits but it's pretty misleading to say it's "very Northern." Overall VA is still a Southern state, just with some other influences thrown in.
