Magnolia Mall has come a long way since the 90s.. Hopefully it wont be too hard to find another anchor to occupy that location...though I cant think of one at the moment
That's Good News.. I haven't been in Magnolia Mall in a while but the last time I was there it seemed to be pretty well occupied and supported compared to malls in other cities. Florence Mall was redeveloped when I lived in Florence in the 90s is also quite successful.
Sears has had a presence in Florence since at least the 1930's. Prior to moving to the brand new Magnolia Mall in 1980, they were located on Irby Street directly across from the former City/County Complex. I'm not surprised it's closing, since there are rarely many cars in it's lot. It's just not the destination it used to be in the 20th century. I am glad the K-Mart is still sticking around. I feel like I'm walking into a '60's/'70's time warp when I walk in there, but that's part of it's charm. It's electronics department is pretty sad, however.
Has anyone heard speculation Dillard's could replace Sears #2705?
I would like to see a Macy's. I had friends in Florence who used to travel to Columbia to shop at the Macy's store back when it was Rich's.
Although some underperforming Macy's may be closing, there is no Macy's presence along the Pee Dee or Grand Strand region. Nor Charleston or Wilmington either. But the former Wilmington Macy's originated as Hecht's and was traded to Belk.
But I did not realize Florence did not already have a Dillard's.
