What smaller lakes are you referring to? I'd love to know as I am interested in living on a smaller, clear lake.
Thanks!

There are a probably over a hundred smaller lakes in the mountains of SC, NC, GA, and TN. Lake Santeetlah, Nanatahala Lake, and Lake Toxaway are some of the bigger ones. There are lots of smaller lakes, many of them part of private housing developments. You really just have to look at a map to find them.

I think the small pristine lakes in the foothills are mostly surrounded by public land, so you can’t live there. The small lakes I know about that are surrounded by houses look way worse than lake Hartwell even. I like the hidden Clemson neighborhoods on Hartwell, and you are close to everything.

Jocassee is the clearest lake I've ever experienced in SC for sure.

I appreciate the insight. One problem I'm finding is that a lot of the smaller lakes limit boating or have motor restrictions, and skiing is a big part of life for us. Lake Toxaway seemed a little cooler temperature wise at 3k elevation than we would like also.

There are great lakes as mentioned in the Northwest portion of the state--from the GA state line over to Clemson.

Very nice societies too.
