Have you visited Conway? It's right outside Myrtle Beach and the area seems to have everything you mentioned. I moved here in January and love it! There are a couple hospitals in the area and the beach is within 20/30 minutes. I did the same thing when I decided to move here...I went to Columbia and Charleston, drove around the area, researched on the internet. All of those places are nice but I decided on the Conway/Myrtle Beach area because it everything I was looking for. Good luck in your search!

Conway is on my list to visit this summer thanks. Is there a good neighborhood I should check out? Family oriented, safe with good schools.

Most of the town is great but there are a couple streets I'd stay away from. I can pm you more information about Conway if you would like, let me know. Also, if you go to: http://www.city-data.com/city/Conway...-Carolina.html
there is some info. about the town.

moedog, that's an insulting way to put it. In my eyes, Summerton is exactly what South Carolina is like, and is indicative of a very large portion of the state. It's an unsophisticated, agricultural town, but "third world"? There is electricity, running water, and a stable government.

That area "gives SC a bad name" ?? Please. Summerton (and nearby towns) are just as much a part of South Carolina as Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Hilton Head, or wherever. You're basically saying that me, my family, and all of my ancestors give South Carolina a bad name. Thanks a bunch.

I agree, that some people who post on here don't consider the feelings of others who also read and respond to these posts. There are ways of voicing one's own preference without putting other people's preferences down.

We should all try to be respectful of one another's feelings and pride in our hometowns. After all, every place on earth has a certain charm to someone.

I have a husband and two boys 4 and 10. We visit Myrtle beach every year for the last 4 years. We love it there so much, that this year we decided once and for all we are leaving MD and moving to SC. But we dont want to be too close to the ocean or the action.
We have a friend who is going to let us stay in their family home in Summerton until we decide where we want to live. My questions are where can we find country living close to a big city? We want the same things as everyone else, good schools, sports for the boys, quiet, safe and family oriented area? We need to be close to jobs I am in the childcare and healthcare field and my husband is in the property management, with armed guard experience. Is Summerton a good place to stay for a couple of months?
I'm sorry for all of the questions but you guys are so good at answering all questions and relocating is very hard.
Thanks in advance.
I have lived in SC my entire life. I live in Myrtle Beach now. What do you want to know?

Horry County is great, but be ready for the heat. Most of the summer is so hot, you will want to stay in where there is airconditioning. Check out the pay here. Lots of jobs, if you want to work for nothing.

Forestbrook area is growing and the schools are excellent, for SC that is.

I have also lived in Richland and Kershaw County.

I would only recommend those if you homeschool and live out in the country.

Question Hello Marylanders

We (family) want to re-locate to beautiful South Carolina! My daughter loves Clemson and would like to attend one day.

Any help and/or information you can lend will be so appreciated We know that Clemson,SC is a very small college town. Would Greenville be a better location? Help..........

Thanks everyone!
