Not to disagree with Cedarite but if you want "mild winters," I'm thinking Cedar City will be too cold for you. Cedar City's elevation is over 5,600 feet which is a good 1,000 to 1,200 feet higher than most of the Wasatch Front and twice as high as St. George at a good 2,800 feet higher. I routinely travel during the winter to and from the northwest through Utah and when going through Cedar City, it's darn COLD! It seems to me that there's always some amount of snow on the ground even when there's no snow on the ground in the SLC area. But yes, Cedar City is definitely cooler in the summers, however.

Southern California would definitely be the place for rather mild temperatures all year around. St. George is very hot in the summer with mild winters and Cedar City is very cold in the winter with mild summers. I guess you have to choose which one is right for you. Personally, I'd rather be in SoCal if it wasn't for being IN California as I don't think I'd like the politics and the expensive cost of living either.

One other possibility that I've mentioned in other threads is Mesquite. We liked living there. It still is a LDS-founded town but being in Nevada, it also has casinos. It pretty much is considered a "suburb" of St. George in that many commute in both directions. It is also a retirement town that attracts many retirees from the SLC area as well as other northern states. But being an LDS town, it still has a lot of family activities and groundedness. The crime rate is relatively low (no, not non-existent as there still will be some drug and gang activity) but is more racially diverse than St. George as there is a large Hispanic population there. I like having no state income tax and prefer the political climate of Nevada to either Utah or California (my personal preference as I know not everybody will agree with me). I like the live-and-let live attitude of Nevada. However, Mesquite is even hotter in the summer than St. George as its elevation is only about 1,600 feet so is warmer in the winter too. In the summer, you can always escape to the mountains of Utah or go the other way to Lake Mead if you're a boater.

Default interracial kids in school

My husband who is Jamaican and I who is white is considering to relocate our family from Brea ca to st george Utah for a better quality of life for our children. My concern is mostly for my husband if it would be difficult for him to get a job, or if the police will pay more attention to him. I also worry for my kids if teachers would accept them. I do not know if I am being paranoid but here in Brea we do put up with racism. For some reason in stores staff likes to follow us more, there is a big issue with hispanics and blacks here and I noticed our kids do not receive as much attention as others. Lastly we are mormon except my husband.

I am looking for a slower pace, family oriented enviroment, smaller class rooms, and safe city. We are Lds but a diverse familly with Jamaican, white and Salvadoran. We are interested in St Geoge for the high LDS pop but worried about the lack of diversity and how our children will be treated. I heard the black population is very low and people will stare is this true?
