Hello Everyone, we are currently living in Illinois and are thinking of transferring to St. Louis. We love historic homes and would love to purchase one of these homes. What are the best area to live with these tyoe of homes? Out of these areas do any of them have good public schools? We have 3 small children and have always lived in the suburbs but like the idea of being close to the city.

Hi and welcome to the forum! The public schools in the city itself, save for some magnets and charter schools, are pretty rotten. But, because the city limits are so small, there are actually several collar cities that could still provide you the historic home you're looking for but with much better schools i.e. University City, Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Richmond Heights, Maplewood, Clayton.

But if you are interested in going through the leg work, there are some good selective enrollment and lottery schools in the city. Info about St. Louis city's magnet program: http://www.slps.org/1962109299111867/lib/1962109299111867/2010%202011%20Magnet%20Guide.pdf (broken link)

If you share more about your potential budget, we can offer more targeted suggestions.

What about the suburb Bellville, IL? They have a great historic district.

What's your budget? Old town Webster Groves has some very awesome historic homes but they are pricey.

Best advice is to look where there is not an entire Slew of Edward Jones Financial Advisors. The seem to be on every corner.

Not that there is anything bad about EJ which is a very solid investment company.

To give some information to the original poster, there are currently 2 Edward Jones offices in Eureka so that might not be the best location for your new business. Eureka is a pretty small town so I don't know if it would support 3 offices.

I'm a Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Premier Group and also live in Eureka. It's a wonderful place to live and the schools are fantastic. I'd be happy to help you with any questions you may have about moving to this area.
