lawrence,
Thanks for the info but look 2 posts above yours and you will see I already got Marriott Union Station on Priceline. I was hoping for Downtown Crown Plaza. I got a room for a great price and hotel looks very nice but I wanted to get hotel either very close to Busch or by Zoo. Can you answer my question regarding safety of walking from Busch stadium after Card night game to my hotel? Thanks

It is a safe walk from Busch stadium after Cardinal night games. You will likely be walking with tens of thousands of other people too doing the exact same thing you are, some driving home, some walking to restaurants and bars, and some to their hotels. People do it for 81 home games a year, usually without any incidents.
I've stayed here before, and while it is more convient for events to the Scottrade Center next door, it is still very walkable from Busch, about 7 blocks or so. As I said, legions of other people will be doing the same thing as you

On a Cardinal's game night, it is very safe. On ither nights, you might get lonely.
If you are going to walk, head down toward downtown. If you head much off Market beyond the Courtyard property, you will hit housing projects.
I thought that you said that you were looking to AVOID parking fees and you stopped at the hotel with some of the highest.

You are right lawrence, I originally said I wanted to avoid parking fees at the hotel. But now I can walk to Busch and Arch and not pay to park at those venues so that partially offsets the cost. The hotel's site says $14/day self park. Thanks for reply re. my safety question.

I actually did that walk two nights in a row two weekends ago. There is lots of activity and lots of people walking around. Stay on Market St and you will be fine.
That is actually something I admire about St. Louis, the ability to walk around downtown at night without worry.

To save some cash you can park meter parking nearby Sat night and Sunday for free. Most nearby parking is meter parking. There are a couple of hotels nearby, for parking purposes, the Hampton Inn on Market which does not charge money to park, and the Courtyard Inn on Market. The neighboring Drury Inn behind the Marriott Union Station, charges and has a big garage. I do agree that if you are remotely uncomfortable stick to Market St. I would also walk back via Clark Street. Along the way will be warehouse parking, J Buck's restaurant etc..plenty of activity. So either walk directly down Market Street in front of the hotel, or walk from back of hotel down Clark St to and from the Stadium and you will be fine.

2) Many DT hotels charge for parking (but not all). The 3* hotels at the airport generally are the cheapest BUT they also charge for parking. You can easily take Metrolink from the airport to downtown easily.
3) The BEST DEALS are in the West St. Louis zone BUT that will work easily ONLY when I-40/64 reopens.
4) If you are planning to be in town on a Cardinals game weekend, especially if the Cubs are in town, book something refundable NOW as the city sells out.
For the record, I was a hotel manager in an earlier life, have over 100+ successful Priceline bids, at least 25 in St. Louis.
