i have a question.i take multivitamins everyday which includes vitamin A (retinyl acetate) and its 3,000 IU a day.now i've read that vitamin A is fat soluable and it can be toxic over time.so am i safe taking this vitamin A everyday or can it be very toxic as you take the vitamins over time? i really like these vitamins and i don't want to stop taking them i was just curious about the vitamin A.does some of this come back out of the body through natural means or is it all stored up.i'm just wondering if it could be stored up and me end up having toxic amounts build up.as you can tell i don't know much about this subject.
i'm also taking one other vitamin called omega qplus which has L-carnitine,co q-10 and fish oil.
i've googled it and can't seem to find a good answer so far.i just wonder if taking vitamin A every day could be stored up and be toxic if i'm just taking 3,000 IU once a day.
If you are living on carrots it might be. If you don't eat foods rich in vitamin A it may not be enough. Body weight also should be a consideration probably. You still have an open ended question with lots of variables so that there is not a yes or no answer without more information. Even then a nutritional professional should be you source of info.
There is a lot of reading here:
3000 iu is not a very high dose. The Omega qplus is an essential fatty acid supplement and doesn't contain a significant dose of Vitamin A. Typically, over about 5000 - 10,000 iu per day is where you need to start exercising caution, particularly if you are pregnant.
Any vitamin listed in "iu" (Vitamins A, D, E) is fat soluble and can build up in the body. The preferred form of Vitamin A is Beta Carotene because it is stored in the body and converted to Vitamin A as needed.
