My grandmother grew up in the city (Wall Street on the west side) and spent the 50 years of her married life and widow-hood living in a house that abutted Onondaga Creek. She always called it "the crick." When I was a kid they called it "The Killer Creek" because so many curious children slipped or fell in and were washed away to be drowned.
