The sixth annual Syracuse International Film Festival begins Friday and lasts for 10 days at selected venues throughout the city. Although I'm not a film buff, this event brings a lot of positive attention to Syracuse and Central New York. Syracuse being linked to something other than cold weather, college sports, and economic stagnation is great news. I happen to like our weather and the SU Orange, however the Film Fest helps position Syracuse as a community rich in arts and culture, something that is essential in attracting and retaining residents and commerce.

It is a great event and I hope that it will be successful again this year.
