To the OP, you can find a much better building in a much better location. If it sounds too good to be true, it is because it is.
Got ya' and it was interesting that there was that post about the building on here about a month ago or so that looked like spam.

I know nothing about the property management / owner but between the spam on here, the random person handing out flyers in front of one of the Downtown Living Tour stops, and the "free" website, I would be worried they would be equally as cheap when it comes to their property and I am possibly the cheapest person out there.

Very true......

OP, if you don't mind a 2 family, this could work: Orange Housing - Classified Listings

ToeJam, ckhthankgod: Thanks guys (or gals?). I like the look of the more northern area around east water/east genessee. There seem to be a few places up there. That link you sent was nice. I'm going to check those out. Are you guys with the city, or just really enthusiastic about it and willing to share your knowledge? Either way it's a huge help to all of us coming here, so thank you! I'll probably swing by the UA, but on closer inspection (google maps, so maybe not too much closer) it does kind of look run down--like a forgotten warehouse on the outskirts of town. I'll call ask them about the security thing though, as that seems odd if they don't have some controlled access.

You may like that loft on East Water, as it puts you right next to Hanover Square, which has some stores, restaurants and a lounge. Nice, historic architecture too. Hanover Square, Syracuse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That one does look nice. Do you know much about Pike Block? seems pricey, but nice.

It is still under construction, but is going along steadily. Here's some info: Pike Block | Apartments in Downtown Syracuse - NY

I just checked out the Google street view and it is very different now. This video shows what is now across the street where the it looks like they are doing construction in the street view. Centro Transit Hub opens today | syracuse.com

I still think they moved the bus hub to this location to make the Pike Block more inviting. There is no way they could have sold those places with all of the transient people hanging around out front. The Pike Block is very nice.

I'm pretty much decided on something between Pike Block and Hanover square. Looks like downtown is a really interesting place! Does much go on down there in wintertime, or is just a frozen wasteland? I hear mixed opinions.

You still have nightlife at both Hanover and Armory Squares, along with ice skating at Clinton Square. There's also places like Dinosaur BBQ, the Saltine Warrior Sports Bar, a cafe and sandwich shop in Franklin Square. There is a Winterfest and a Christmas Tree lighting as well. You could check out a hockey game and I believe indoor soccer at the War Memorial Arena, if you are into that, as well. There may be some other events that I'm forgetting about as well.
