Here's another spot to look at: Quiet 2 - Bdrm Upper Flat (http://syracuse.craigslist.org/apa/1289397008.html - broken link) In a nice area on the northern end of the city of Syracuse by LeMoyne Elementary.

Well, that depends...

As hard as my husband has tried I think we realize I just have to be there too to help him find the right place. Just this evening an offer has come for us to stay at a place virtually rent free a while until I get my bearings. But I need to know what ya'll think of this place:

Frontenac Apts.
1804 W. Genesee Street at Willis Ave.

It's a chance to live pretty cheap for a while, but would I regret it?

I have not seen the inside of the apartments and don't know who the landlord is.... and it is a busy street so if you're on the front end of building there will be some street noise. But the neighborhood is fine - clean and safe.

Thanks phaelon - I'm mostly concerned about being safe at this point

Don't worry. That is in the Tipp Hill/West End part of town. It is close to Solvay, the Zoo, Westvale and Western Lights Plazas as well. You should be fine.

Okay, well it's decided...I'll be there on the 10th. Even if I hate the apt at least I'll be in a fairly safe area and can start getting to know the city to find something more permanent. But for now, it's hard to beat living practically free!

Thanks to everyone who suggested places for me to check out - I looked at every single link and really appreciate your help!!!

Syracuse here I come

You'll be close to the Blarney Stone - reputed to have one of the best burgers in town. Also very close to Smorol's restaurant - a very nice old school neighborhood place with an American menu and great service (meatloaf with gravy, open steak sandwich, fried haddock etc.). And it's a short drive out West Genesee to China Pavilion - good Chinese food and the only dim sum in town (Sundays only). And there's Coleman's if you just have to have a Guiness. There's also a new place called Tip Hill Cafe that's supposed to have good sandwiches, pastries and desserts. I think it's right near the "green on top" traffic light in Tipp Hill.
