I am thinking of moving to Florida and I am looking at the Tampa area but I want to know how the jobs and crime rates are. What the average rent is.

liltasha. Don't let the negative people who will assume anything to fit thier stereotypes effect you in your decision.

Our unemployment (or employment) is much like the rest of the country. Better than some, worse than other places.

There are many colleges here in the area for you to finish your degree. USF, University of Tampa, Saint Leo, Rassmussen, Webster, Kaplan, etc...

There are areas that are more prone to crime like any other large city. There are also many nice areas that are easy driving distances from the major universities.

Not sure what you are looking for in rent prices. Townhomes and CONDO's are a bit pricey and there are numerous apartments that are priced well. Finding that job so you can make ends meet takes a lot of hard work. There are many websites that can help from indeed.com, snagajob.com, usajobs.gov, city/county government, etc... The Government jobs take longer to get hired I've read. They have a lot of beauracracy that happens on the way to being hired.

Service Industry jobs are the easiest to get hired at, but the wages is minimum to a little above. Call Centers, Resturants, Fast Food, etc... seem to get you working the quickest and you can find them at the sites above.

There are some posts on here where the good and bad places are to live. I think they are way overboard on categorizing places, but it gives you a starting point.

What price range, size, and commute distance are you looking for from work? From School?

I would try to get a few interviews set up, narrow down my location, have at least 5K at your disposal, and come down and take a look.

What is a nice area to some is not to others and vice versa.

The best part is it is only you to take care of, but you will have time to work hard and put in the hours necessary to make it.

GOOD LUCK!

We all know what happens to people who "assume".
