I think the poster of the post you quoted is a drama queen. The Spring Hill postings of hers were all over the top. Funny thing is if you go to the Spring Hill page on facebook its a whole different world than described by some people here. Like the description of the shoppers at walmart, how can anyone take that seriously?. I have come to realize that she is one of those "my chit doesn't stink" people, better than and above the average person.

Anyway, I remember 20 years or so ago, my nephew need a pair of work boots for the job he had to start on Monday after getting the job offer on Saturday. That Sunday was Easter Sunday. We drove all over Orlando, Kmart, Wal Mart, Sears, any place that probably would sell a work boot. All to no avail. The only store we found open was an independent convenience store. I think today more and more businesses are open on more and more holidays because the chance to make a buck is more of a controlling factor these days.

Mobs? I could have waltzed across US 19 here on Sunday. Traffic was minimal. glad you found something open. I guess Publix just isn't that greedy.

Perhaps those who were surprised by the store closing on Easter were so because many places *are* open on all but a few holidays. I don't believe it is simply just selfishness, bad planning or I WANT IT NOW tantrums, it could just be a result of the time and place we are at now. Of course there are exceptions, but being one of those who actually went to Publix on Sunday, to find it closed, idk - it didn't even occur to me that it would be closed. Not that I cared, but was still an *oh...* moment.

Over the years it has become more common to find stores open on holidays, having longer operating hours or being 24/7. It was not so long ago that the mighty dollar was not as important as tradition and holidays.

Sure planning is nice and dandy. But as we all
Know planning doesn't always work out the way you planned.

I bought a generator, although we seldom lose power for more than a minute or so. I plan on leaving if ever a hurricane comes well my family anyway I would probably have to work, we do get 7 days notice when a big storm comes. That word entitlement is such a hot button nowadays, but expecting the service that I pay for to work is not being entitled neither is wishing someone would provide a service that I would pay for, that's how it works you give someone money they give you a service, when the lawn guy comes and he is doing his thing while I am watching TV I am not entitled even if I ask him to come on a Sunday because its convenient to me, he can say no I would look for a different guy.

We were a more civil society 100 years ago.

Exactly....I mean we can't even stuff down our Turkey fast enough before people head up to the 'pre pre prior' black Friday sales events.

There are reasons I boycott this kind of idea-my kids now teens have never seen their mom go out on a Black Friday- out of principle. Nor on Easter, nor on Christmas (for a movie) or New Years day..or even day after the Holidays.

Ok, New Years eve is a different story but I like to party once in a while

Holidays have a special meaning- besides what it stands for and our beliefs...it's a STOP and REST and ENJOY your family/home. I can even see people taking advantage and planning a vacation or going to a festival or outdoor activity of sorts (weather permitting).

That's the beauty of free choice-if it were my SO, he was say no to your Sunday request because it's importan to HIM to spend that day with his family-just like yours is to you-and finds plenty of customers that are ok with this. He's made exceptions if there is some big event going on and the weather was bad prior-but it's not the norm.

Some places you don't have that 'choice'.

If I didn't rep you already, I would have for this. I commend you for teaching your kids these kinds of values because in this day and age, it is much harder to encourage tradition.

Please detail the last time you left the ER to go to a local supermarket to get a patient a snack!
