Sonic isn't close to In N Out...at all. I'd say Checkers is closer than that. Five Guys for sure.

So tell us, what is so unique about a burger from In N' Out?
It's a combination of several things. The atmosphere, which is similar to Five Guys- you walk in, and the cooks are all right there so you can watch your burger being made, the way they have it laid out. The burgers have a specific taste to them- there's really nothing like it. Their fries are small, but they taste kind of like Mc Donald's fries, only not overly salted and greasy. You have to eat an In N Out to truly understand the concept. I drove cross country to Vegas last year. My first stop..one that I looked forward to the most? In-N-Out in Vegas. Had two double doubles that day.....sigh.....

Default If you go to In-n-Out

Order your double double animal style! It's to die for - they mix the onions (not sure what else!) in the hamburger before cooking. I had never heard of animal style until some co-workers clued me in when I moved here in 04! I don't think they advertise it much, not sure why. My co-workers from SCal said Reno didn't have a decent hamburger place until In-n-Out opened. They are always busy....although I rarely eat red meat anymore - when I do get a burger from In-n-Out it's worth ditching the diet and saying to hell with cholesterol levels! Maybe the chain will expand, it is the best burger I've ever had, and I would like to see one open in Tampa area.

I'm looking forward to some good pizza in Tampa area - Reno's pizza choices suck - especially compared to the greasy thin crust pizza (Giovanni's) I grew up with in southern Ohio. After spending a month in Florida last year having good pizza from 3 different places I realized how bad Reno's pizza choices are....

looks like the consensus is with 5 guys...as for starting one in Tampa, I wish I could, but they are family owned and operated...although one of the founders has an exact copy in Newport Beach, CA

I know this is an old thread but I prefer Five Guys to In-N-Out. Infact In-N-Out was in the middle of the pack for me. It went: Carl Jr.'s ($6 burger), In-N-Out, and Fat Burger. Five Guys is more like a Johnny Rockets (the one here was terrible but CT and NV were awesome). I've yet to find good pizza here though.

Five Guys doesn't do much for me. Their hot dogs are okay, but everything else is crap, especially their fries. I think I'd take Krystal over Five Guys.

Yeah, we didn't think it was "all that" either, especially for the price. I was expecting much more from the fries - those big limp greasy things.
