My mom is seriously considering relocating to Tampa in the near future. She wants to go to the culinary school at The Art Institute in Tampa. We know nothing about the area and are trying to find a good neighborhood for her. She is a 50 year old white female and she just wants a safe, clean area...
Any suggestions??

As far as I know, the Art Institute is in west Tampa, so maybe Westchase might be a good place to check out. Or Oldsmar.

There are nice areas near by like Westchase, Citrus Park, Carrollwood. I would not recommend she live right by the college though. That area is not good to live in. Oldsmar is nice but may be a bit far. How long is she willing to drive? What is her monthly rental budget? Does she want a house or apt?

Tell her to stray away from Hillsborough Ave. Not a good area. However, going north down Himes, and even North down Dale Mabry will bring up some decent apartment complexes. My friends went to the Art Institute and I feel it's only fair to throw out: They're constantly in fear of losing their accredidation. It's the reason my friends left for UT.

I'm not familiar with the specific areas of Dunedin but generally I like it...it's a nice area with a small town feel. Depending on her class schedule thought that might be a bit of a cmmute.

Is anywhere on that peninsula okay? St Pete's, Pinnelas Park, Clearwater, etc... okay then? She knows it will be a little bit of a commute, but she is most concerned about safety and an overall nice place to live with cute places to eat/shop. She is planning on visiting before she moves, but she wants to narrow down where she is gonna look. I don't want her moving into an area that is all 20 somethings...but she can't be with the seniors either. LOL

Thanks again for ALL this help!!

If commute's not a problem, St. Pete and Clearwater sound like the types of places she'd be interested in. Close to the water, shopping, you name it.
