The billions of tax dollars for public education come from the customers. It's not like the public education budget is paid with mana from Heaven.

This teacher obviously had a bad attitude. She worked for an agency with public trust...she abused that by publicly trash talking her students.

When it comes to work...best policy...leave it there.

Just as an update on this story for people who are curious - the teacher did return to her job for the 2011-2012 school year, but the school allowed parents to request a transfer from her class for their kids, and the school honored them. She was left with an extremely light load. She received poor evaluations and was not renewed for the 2012-2013 school year.

I knew some of the staff from this school - she was not particularly embraced by the staff over this, and they were pretty certain the school district would not have made a move unless they were certain of the legality of their actions. I'm sure she'll be suing, but doubt she'll be reinstated.

Well, that raises a question... are the taxpayers her customers or her employers?
The right to criticism your public sector employer publicly has been widely upheld.

As a customer, a parent can take their kids to another teacher. Just as the teacher in the original post learned in 2011-12. As the parents requested transfer to another class, the teacher lost her customers. When you lose your customers, you are out of a job.

What do I think? I think she was remarkably naive about the consequences of posting anything on the internet.

Athough the job of a teacher is to teach, and not allow her personal opinions to get in the way of her job. She's probably right.

For someone who lives in Philadelphia, I see first hand on how these children act and behave out in public, on transportation, etc.'

They curse, loud, use profanity.

Alot of them have no books in hands or bookbags and just show up.

I think she should be reprimanded, but not fired.
