I am new here and have noticed the strict enforcement for the sale of alcohol on certain days. Where can I get county ordincances. I know its not sold on sundays in my town (Dandridge) and a gas station that is too close to a church can't sell it either its very odd; though is this the same for Sevier County, and I am not sure what county Gatlinburg is in. Any info is great, its just boggling my mind...

Thanks

I could be wrong, but I believe that alcohol sells are banned in the entire state on Sundays. I dont know about the laws on proximity to a church. I know it seems strange to some people outside of the area, its just the conservative nature of the area. I remember this past new years fell on a Sunday, and my friend originally from out of state was caught off guard by not being able to buy alcohol on new years.

Tennessee alcohol laws will do more than boggle your mind . . . you will get a headache worse than any hangover trying to find, read, and understand both the state laws and the local regulations for beer and liquor sales. Calculus will look easy in comparison.

Do you really need this information? I hope you have some aspirin handy if you do.

Anyway, here's a starter for you (related to beer sales): http://www.ctas.utk.edu/PUBLIC/web/ctas.nsf/EntriesWeb/951E6C03DDDE8497862570F1006C58A9/$FILE/2006Beer.pdf

Enjoy!

Riveting reading. I guess the idea is to bore you to death so that you'll fall asleep and not bother purchasing alcohol.

If you manage to stay awake, you'll get a severe headache, which will remind you of a hangover, and you'll decide it just isn't worth it!

lol.. I think the individual counties choose whether they are 'wet' or dry' by referendum. One of the most ironic cases i know is Lynchburg ( of the Jack Daniels Distillery fame) is in a dry county. You can tour the distillery and sniff the whiskey working in the vats, but you can't buy a bottle there. You can travel to neighboring counties and buy it though....lol

It is my understanding that the answer to your question is yes.

I hate to say I told you so . . .

Here's the basic rules:

If you live in or near one of the larger cities you'll soon learn when and where you can buy what you want (it's really not much of an issue, just perhaps different than wherever it is you're from if you're from out-of-state . . . yes, I know, it's weird that grocery stores sell beer but not wine, and that owning a liquor store license is similar to being lord of a fiefdom in long ago days).

If you live in one of the smaller town or out in the truly rural areas, you'll need to plan ahead just a bit. If you live way, way out there . . . buy it from that guy who buys all the mason jars at the country store . . . and doesn't grow anything but corn.

In all seriously, it isn't rocket science to get a drink in Tennessee if you so choose. Trust me, you'll work it out.

hehe....I remember visiting my brother in PA back in the 90's. You had to go to a restaurant or a package store to buy beer.
