Hello all.

This is a bit of an odd question, and I had no idea where to ask it. But it seems like I can speak with Texans here, so hopefully you're my best shot.

I have someone who was going to rent some equipment from me, and he brought in a temporary Texas driver's license. I haven't seen one of these before, and I have no way of knowing if it's real. It looks like something he could've made on his computer.

I researched it, and it does appear that Texas gives out paper temporary licenses, but I can't find a picture of one anywhere. I have no idea if what this guy is giving me is legit or not.

I don't want to tell him I can't help him if it's a real license. It's not his fault if they gave him a questionable document. But I also don't want to give him equipment to use if he just printed up a "license" at home.

I was hoping someone who has had a temporary Texas license could let me know what was on there. Or just describe it generally so I have some idea of what I should look for.

Thanks a lot.

-Jay

Yep, Texas gives out temporary licenses instead of just handing you a new one on the spot. Then they mail one from the central government in Austin after a few weeks. The temporary ones are typically printed out on a big 8.5 x 11 standard sheet of printer paper, as far as I've seen, and especially to a non-Texan, they're pretty freakin' unbelievable. However, that's what they issue here. You may be able to get the license # off the paper and then perhaps check with the Texas Department of Public Safety or Department of Motor Vehicles or something and maybe they can verify that it's legitimate. A buddy of mine had a temporary license once and had to fly to Indiana, and didn't think about it. When he was trying to return to Texas, of course the authorities in Indiana were like "um... what's this?" Haha

Edit: If this person has obtained a temporary Texas ID, they must have several other forms of ID that they used to obtain it, so you could just ask for that as verification too.

Exactly,

The old ones used to be smaller and no ID picture. Now days it's larger as you say and with an ID photo. It's kinda funny but that is how it irks here in Texas.

PS: Texas also stamps "Temporary Driver's License" on the DL of people immigrating to the US/Texas.
