You also want to be aware that housing can change very quickly now that the huge industrial projects have started in the area and this may effect price on rental and of course has really effect traffic. Two hours one way ;boy that is going to get really expensive as gas gets higher.good luck

I agree with trying Bridge City. Almost no crime and 10-15 minutes to Lamar Orange.

I work in a trauma ICU in Beaumont and the stretch of I-10 between Beaumont and Orange sends us a lot of business... not the safest roadway!

We visited Beaumont this weekend. Wow! I was surprised that a nice 1bdrm apt cost almost $800 /month. I was surprised because you can buy a 3 bdrm / 2 bth house right across N. Major for only $120,000. Since it is only temporary, we are moving to an apt on N. Major. It is certainly strange that a mortgage with insurance would be the same price a small apt., especially b/c they literally 500 feet apart.

uglyblackjohn - all of your advice was dead on. Thank you very much.

Beaumont's real estate market is strange b/c where I am from (which has a larger population than Beaumont), $600 will get you a nice 1bdrm in a safe area. I guess since there is such an abundance of safe areas, there is no price premium like Beaumont.

Default Bridge City

Why does Bridge city look so run down from Bird's Eye view on Live Maps?

Those apartments don't look so nice.

I haven't been thru Bridge City in over 10 years. It was basically ground zero for Hurricane Rita.

I think the premium price on apartments is due to the huge industrial construction going on and the demand for temporary housing.

There are some brand new apartment buildings on Old Dowlen, just north of walmart and close to 105 and I10. They looked really nice when I drove by.
I do not recommend The Pointe, right by walmart - we lived there for a while and the neighbors were loud and trashy. The management has changed since then though, so they may have improved.
Any where you choose, I recommend driving by or through the complex at several different times throguhout the day - The Pointe looked really nice during the day, but after dark it was kind of scary.

The thing is we've been hit with Ike and Bridge City was almost wipped off the map. I think out of the whole city, something like 12 homes or so were not flooded. You are right about the area by the school in Orange is bad. That is where I live and my son just recently bought a shot gun for home defence. Since the hurricane we are all the more valnerable.
Good luck.
