As one who was sadly born in another state and has spent 52 of my 56 years away from Texas, I agree it IS scary! To keep on topic, I'm thankful to be here now although only temporarily and for the 4 years I spent here before.

I'm thankful for getting up this morning and all of my body parts function.
I'm really thankful that my next door neighbor bagged a 6 point buck and I'll get 5 pounds of vinison sausage tonight. We'll be having vinison chili and cornbread on Saturday.
I'm extremely thankful to have food in pantry, a roof over my head, and some pretty good neighbors.
Finally, I'm glad and thankful that neighbor's daughter has safely returned from her second tour of duty in Iraq. God bless our troops.

Second, and foremost, I'm glad to be in Texas rather than an area that is suffering from market turmoils. And attached to that, that I sold my condo last year before values dropped. And just a few months ago, WAMU solicited to mortgage a home me again. LOL

And I'm especially thankful for the awesome contribution the state of Texas has made to college football.

WillysB reminds me that I too am very thankful to have been living in Texas and in New Mexico where the economies have continued to perform during these tough times. However, mostly I am thankful for a God-fearing family who love me almost as much as I love them.

Case44,

Thanks for a good thread among the many bad ones we've seen here at CD lately.

This thread thread helps us Texans (I know I am not a Texan yet, but I feel that I am at heart) realize how much we have to be thankful for in this life as we face the good times, the bad times, and the hard times. Excellent thread, OP!

You're welcome, and you can be thankful for that.

Those are great things to be thankful for, car957. We take so much for granted (clothes, food, rooves, cars, etc), yet we have those things to employ and incorporate every day.

And we can also be thankful for venison chili!!! Or any kind of chili. Pass me a bowl.

As long as there is cornbread with chili, I am definitely down...
