Tourist cities are defined by attractions that warrant a visit, right? People flock to NO for special events (which is the same as attractions), so Bourbon St isn't an attraction? The oldest streetcar line in the nation isn't an attraction? How about City Park, the Riverfront, Audubon Park, Magazine St, Nation WWII Museum, New Orleans MOA, casinos, etc. What about Essense Fest? Voodoo Fest? FQ Fest, Southern Decadence? What about the galleries with original Ansel Adams prints on Royal St?
Perhaps you haven't seen groups of architecture students walking around the city studying it's buildings and styles from other schools in the state and country. I have.

Stop while your ahe-well just stop.
I have been to Bourbon street(multiple time in one visit).Hoever it was the only thing to do.Dallas has MANY attractions that I too can list for you but they are more popular with the locals not tourist(Hence why Dallas is still not known as a Tourist city).
And Yes Bourbon street could be considered an attraction...the only attraction...which appeals to a small demographic of people..similar to how 6th street is to Austin...Does EVERYBODY visit Bourbon and 6th street in N.O and Austn??...You Bet!!..but does that mean it automatically qualify a city as being a "Tourist City"?...No sir...Millions of people visit the state fair in Dallas.Does that qualify Dallas as being a Tourist city???...No.My point is that every city has festivals that are big; N.O does not have the monopoly on that.

You thought it was the only thing to do. You think its the only attraction. You obviously don't know much about the city at all.
You fail.

Of course you did. It's a tourist city through and through. You just didn't know where to go and what to do. Not my fault you stayed in the confines of downtown New Orleans.

It is definitely a music, literary and culinary tourist city. People fly in from all over the world to have beignets at Cafe du Monde, to eat at Commander's Palace or another 20 or so world renowned restaurants. They come to listen to jazz and blues in the Frenchman's Quarter or the Faubourg Marigny, to pay homage to the birthplace of Louis Armstrong and other jazz greats, to walk the streets described in "A Confederacy of Dunces," or the Anne Rice vampire novels, or Zora Neale Hurston's "Hoodoo."

While small, it is one of the most historically and culturally (and architecturally) significant cities in the U.S. There is nothing in the state of Texas that offers anywhere as many distinctive tourist attractions, let alone an entirely unique experience. The East End of Galveston has something of New Orleans magic, but it is not even close. What are the tourist attractions of Dallas? a grassy mound with a sad history? A department store? A ranch-house used in a trashy television show? A football stadium?

I like Dallas fine, and would probably rather live in Dallas than New Orleans, but if I am being a tourist, i.e. I want experiences I cannot get where I live, I would go to NOLA twenty times for each time I went to Dallas.
