Do you mean the scenery would be messed up or just the town? My mom was born & raised in Fort Stockton & she said that FT. Stockton has changed a lot since the Interstate was built & in a way it has died because of the Interstate but Fort Stockton has added some businesses with the help of the Interstate.

A Interstate would encourage travel & business to Alpine & the whole Big Bend area. Plus Alpine has Amtrak & Sue Ross University. A Interstate would help travel to & from the these things, but on the other hand if the Interstate went to Eagle pass or Del Rio that would be great too.

I'm new to Odessa & I too would like to see Amtrak come to the area. I moved here from Springfield, MA where we have plane, train, bus & automobiles to get around. Things are different here.

That part of Texas is bigger than the whole state of MA...

People from small states just don't seem to understand that Texas is to big to have trains running from one little town to the other...

About ten years ago or so Amtrak did have a plan to change the Sunset Line (I think that was the name) from Miami to Los Angeles to a more northern route through Texas that would stop in Odessa. I don't know what happened to that plan. They probably figured that it just wouldn't be profitable, but then again almost none of Amtraks lines are, so I don't know.
