Based on my own personal experience I'd have to say Lubbock. I've lived there and in Midland, San Angelo, and now I'm back in my hometown of Abilene. I say Lubbock mostly because because there is a lot more entertainment options and a larger variety of restaurants there. I've been to Waco and Killeen and Temple and although the scenery in those areas is is better than any of the aforementioned cities, IMO none of those cities are significantly different in your stated categories than Midland-Odessa, Abilene, or San Angelo. I can't really comment on the Beaumont area or Tyler because I've never been to those cities.

Born and raised in Waco; It would be more predictable for me to go for Waco. However, I always liked Lubbock when I use to visit. My only problems with it though is isolation, no thriving black culture, scenery and landscape. Waco being more centralized and also have scenery and a vibrant black culture is what changes my vote back to it.

Tyler: Really nice and beautiful. However, too isolated and conservative imo.

Midland/Odessa: It's been awhile since I been there, but from what I remember it was very dry and flat. It wasn't boring, but nothing exciting either.

Killeen/Temple/Belton: Killeen is just beyond suburban and spread out to me. Temple felt pretty similar to Waco, but lack certain things. Belton=no comment.

Beaumont/Port Arthur: Dirty and ghetto as hell, but I see potential.

No Bryan/College Station? It kinda sucks but it's just as big as some of those listed.

Would Corpus be considered a major city or minor city? If minor; would it fall in to the other category?

Having been to only Waco, Amarillo, and Tyler/Longview, I would pick Waco.

As surprising as it is, its actually the most open minded of the three.

I would put Corpus in the Midland-Odessa/Lubbock/Amarillo/Longview/Tyler category.

Sure; I left some cities off.

You got College Station and Corpus. Maybe others, but I didn't bother to look.

I would chose Abilene if listed, with Tyler, Midland/Odessa and Lubbock tied for second.
