That's called beating around the bush and evading the topic at hand with an arbitrary question. Get real! Your mayor has smoked crack "in a drunken stupor" and embarrased your city and the dignity of the position of mayor of North America's 3rd largest city. How does Toronto and its mayor who oversees the police force and education among several other responsibilities in the city move forward with this?

I am not a native speaker of English, but does "I don't" mean "I have never in the past"?

Does "I don't eat meat" mean "I have never eaten meat"?

It is not rhetoric but a genuine question. I have a feeling that Ford has been smart in answering those questions. He didn't seem to have outrightly say he never consumed crack before, technically speaking.

4th, not third.
You forget Mexico City again.

Again, I am not a Ford supporter. It is just the media in attacking him seems to accuse of him for lying, when he didn't seem to have.

In other words, he was being evasive.

That's for sure. But is it surprising politicians being evasive about tough questions? How many times do we see this: journalist ask tough and embarassing questions and politicians just repeat the same old and nice message they like without answering the questions at all. McGuinty does it. Obama does it. All the time.

The fact is, Ford didn't lie, and the media's accusation is misplaced.

Rob Ford is a serial liar. Every time he gets in trouble, he lies about it until he can't anymore.

He said he doesn't use it, and it turns out he does use it. He said a tape doesn't exist, now we know it does exist.

Just like he always does, he lied.

heres my opinion, if i may butt in, my not being a torontonian.

im sad about this - i liked Ford's governing philosophies and his leadership for the city, from what ive read, heard, or been exposed to. (i wouldnt call Toronto a second home - but ive been there millions of time for work or for family).

but - i think using cocaine/crack is reprehensible. the amount of damage those drugs have done to society in the United States, Mexico, and other American countries is unbelievable. violence, murder, more violence, changes in population trends (people fleeing gang-infested neighborhoods), propogation of negative racial stereotypes, people stuck with no hope for bettering their lives, etc. etc. etc.....

im looking at the big picture here. using cocaine is not acceptable - you are abetting the drug trade! you are contributing to people that would shoot and kill a baby and grandmother if it suited them.

i lost a lot of respect for Ford and see him in a totally different light now. the fat pig.

No, he does not use. He used it (a year ago). He would be lying if you can prove
1) he is actually using crack at present, OR
2) he was using crack a year ago.

What tape? we don't even know the content and now we accuse him lying about the tape.

I totally agree with you.
However, the same thing you mentioned apply to gambling too. So I guess government officials shouldn't gamble either.
