I have three weeks off this December and would like to plan a trip. Where are some good places to visit that doesn't have extreme winter conditions (snow, daytime highs below 50 degrees, etc). I'm not much of a beach person or outdoorsy type. My ideal vacation involves sightseeing, cultural activities and culinary delights
I was going to suggest Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village in Dearborn Michigan. Caroling, horse-drawn wagon rides, bonfires, old-time holiday traditions in a historical setting. Then I read the second sentence and unfortunately, cold and snow is quite possible in this area at that time. If you could get by the cold and possible snow, I'm sure you would enjoy it, especially the traditional feast at the stagecoach stop (reservations required).
Have you considered Washington DC? The Smithsonian is a great place, the National Arboretum, and tons of other places in the area. If it still exists- the Chesapeake Bay Seafood House ( it's a chain ) is a great place to eat as is the Associates Dining Room at the Smith.
Another option would be Asheville North Carolina to take in the Biltmore House. This mansion built by the Vanderbilts is truly a sight to behold. And they do some decorating for Christmas. The tree in the dining room is magnificent.
Arizona There is no adverse weather. There's lost of culture some of it illegal, but there's plenty of it. Sheriff Joe Arpaio who is "special". There is NO water, but there's the Grand Canyon. I personally would rather go to San Diego or anyplace else, but it is just a thought. How about a cruise to some tropical place??? Oprah, says Charlotte, North Carolina is a very fun city to visit. Good luck

Washington DC is somewhere that I've been meaning to visit ... I wonder how severe the weather is in December though ... I'm a Southern Californian who has never experienced extreme cold temps (40 degrees is extreme for me )

Sounds very interesting but not sure if I can handle the cold and snow ... (I'm from Southern California and have never experienced snowy weather or highs below 40 degrees).... I'm definitely a weather wimp

Hmmm ... I'll have to look into AZ and Charlotte ... I've heard of Sedona, AZ but not sure what there is to do ... I'm not much of an outdoorsy type so the Grand Canyon isn't high on my list.

According to Weather.com the average high for December in DC is 47 and the average low is 32.

That's cold in my book but more bearable than sub-zero weather ... I would have to spend most of my time indoors so hopefully the subway system is close to the major attractions.
