By the way, you would have to pay me (literally) to stay at a Red Carpet Inn.

Days Inns have been on the bottom of the barrel list for me for 30 years. I have stayed in only one ever that was decent--notice I didn't say good. It was brand new and should have been a Holiday Inn. This was in 1990. Most of them have never been updated since then, so proceed with caution.
One thing to add is that while bed bugs can happen at even the best hotels, the management is far more responsive at better places. If you complain of bed bugs at a Days Inn or Red Roof you'll be met with a shrug. If you complain of bed bugs at a Hampton or Hyatt Place you'll immediately be moved and they won't be able to do enough for you. The better the hotel, the more proactive they are in inspecting and using bed bug proof mattress covers on beds.
