NO way, NO how would I bring medicine into another country that did not have my name or my child's name on the bottle - if it is a prescription.

You might get away with it and have no problem. You may not. But, it is likely a crime.

Get yourself out of this situation before it becomes a "thing... Just my 2 cents

Think about it, you we be the one answering to the officials and these guys dont have a sense of humor.
It's more along the lines that probably the daughter doesn't have insurance covering her in France if she is an American. (not sure how it all works there) ...

I have taken my own meds into a foreign country, a communist one at that, and no one bothered to ask me to take out the bottle. Granted it was for me, but they didn't even look @ it.

I do think it could be hit or miss though, IMO, I wouldn't chance it.

I want to thank everyone here who took the time to reply.

I ended up contacting the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. I received a reply promptly to my question.

France does not allow someone to import medicine for another without an importation authorization from a French government agency known at the "Agence Nationale de Securite du medicament".

This could have resulted in a difficult situation. I appreciate those who encouraged me not to do this.

I thought that I could have just have a prescription written in my name, but that would be wrong. It would be fraud.

As much as I appreciate my friendship with this neighbor it is not enough that I would be willing to get in trouble to help him out.

I am going to drop off a copy of the email that I received from the French Embassy to my neighbor so he can see it.

I'm glad you got that from the French Embassy to show your neighbor, and I hope the doctor will not bug you about this. Please satisfy our curiosity. What is the medication?

as mentioned... these meds are easily available in France (likely for a fraction of USA cost).

Certainly would have expected that response from Embassy (of any country)

You don't want to be caught 'transporting drugs' ! (no matter how 'nice' )

Friend's daughter can hop over to Greece to get the meds VERY cheap! (an likely many other places in Euroland).

I'm glad you were able to find an easy way to say no. I would have said, I'm sorry, I'm just not comfortable doing that. But, this way you can show him why.
