Should I get a crappy motel or a nice hotel for 1 day?

I would stay at a nice hotel. I always stay in nice hotels and really like it.

I agree, you can get a deal on Priceline. I once wanted a htel near airport in FLL, got a Wyndham for $50 on priceline. Nice hotel, good room.
When I don't use Priceline I usually book a Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Embassey Suites, Springhill Suites by Marriott. Theere is also Fairfield by Marriott, also good. All of those give free breakfast.
