A redneck's idea of a vacation is everyone gathering on your neighbours front porch instead of yours, for once. Cost: a case of beer and a radio.

So, here's the question....Where would you go and what would you do?
You said airfare is NOT part of the equation.
The wife and I have done long weekends in London, Paris, & Munich (ea several times) for under $2k, incl airfare.

EDIT: you do not say where you are located, so that is going to make a difference - on the East coast lots of cities have direct flights to major European cities.

I would not ever want to go to Europe for 2-3 days!!! OMG, that flight would be a killer and to have to turn around and do it a couple of days later!!! Im WAAAY too old for that!!

I would never go on a vacation with only $1,000 in cash period. The last vacation I took was to Orlando, Florida and I took $5,700 in cash with me and I had a blast because I could aford to splurge more since I had a bigger budget to work with.

Of course spending $5700 in Orlando (what was going on there to spend that kind of $) is one way to go...that is not my goal with this question. I am talking about a weekend get-away. You can get some great deals on nice hotels off of many travel websites and still have enough cash left over to enjoy the destination. You don't have to spend big money to have a great time. I am a planner and a researcher so I enjoy looking into all of those things.

Of course, I enjoy those kind of vacations too...but if I am going to drop that kind of cash, I am going longer than a weekend. No offense but I am not sure Orlando would be at the top of my list.

It's easy to blow through that type of cash in a week in Orlando.

$400/night x 7 for a Disney deluxe hotel (which is really just a Hilton level, not "deluxe") $2800.

$1700 in assorted park passes for a family of four for a week.

$1500 in meals and snacks for a family of four for a week.

$1200 in airfare for four.

$300 in rental car and gas/tolls for a wek

$40 in camera batteries to capture it all.

$5 in Advil and Zantac for mom and dad.

$7545 for a week in Orlando for a family of four.

No...I totally get how you can go through that kind of $ at Disney...especially in a week with a family of four. I guess when I read the post, it sounded like a non-disney trip....maybe b/c he used the word "I" not "We". Spring Training popped into my head for some reason???

Also...may want to increase the Advil and Zantac budget to $10.

Well, even two people can blow through it in a non-Disney trips eating at Christini's every night (plan on $500 with cheap wine) staying in the Ritz-Carlton and with a side trip to hard Rock Casino.

And yeah, I agree on upping the budget for the Advil and Zantac.

I'd vote for a cruise or Vegas.
Best bang for your bucks!
