I registered just so I could post and say thanks to all who post in this forum. My husband, 3 kids and I have been thinking about moving to Arizona from Ohio. I've spent quite a bit of time researching and reading and this forum has been very helpful! The good mix of good and bad about Tucson has been eye opening.

Assuming all the stuff with my husband's job works out and he can transfer, we're planning a move to Tucson in the summer of 2011! We're very excited. We are so sick of the horrible winters here. There's more to our motivation than the weather but it does play a part.

While I still have reservations about the move (education system, leaving our families) I think this will be a great move for us!

I have never read any of your older post. We live in Oro Valley, it is beautiful, are school system with Amphi is the best. Down side, allergies are horrible and Chemical Sensitivity for us is worst. If you are conservative listen to Jon Justice 104.1 the truth FM and 97.9. am. Although there is bad elements in the city, it is much nicer in the foothills and OV. I hope you find the place you want to be, all places have bad, all high schools and middle schools have bad, but the beauty of this State, everyone should be proud of. You will enjoy exploring all seasons here, and this is a great place to raise and be a family. I wish for you to get where you need to be in 2011. If you ever need any info please PM me.

I keep hearing about the allergies being worse out there. So far (knock on wood) neither my husband, my kids or I have allergies so I'm hoping this won't be a big concern for us. I'm crossing my fingers.

We're basing our housing search on Oro Valley, as we keep reading such good things about it. The problem is our budget. We can't afford much more than $900/mo and there doesn't seem to be much in Oro for that amount. I'm not giving up though - we have lots of time.

Thanks for the tip. We're an interesting mix - my husband is pretty conservative, I'm pretty liberal. (He's also a Michigan fan, I'm a buckeye!) Kind of a mixed marriage I guess

I've often wondered how many Ohio transplants are in Arizona. Glad to hear you're loving it! And I'm sure you understand about the winters. Granted they aren't as bad here as in New England but still...if I never have to shovel my driveway again I'll be happy.

Arizona Summers are brutal, PaperMoon . . .

But Summers suck everywhere and are much worse most other places.

Not in the mountains! It's extremely pleasant up there. And, they're tolerable in Tucson as long as you go from AC/home to AC/car to AC/work-store-wherever.....and avoid getting a job laying asphalt at noon in July.....

Ok, Marcy . . . MOST everywhere.

. . . but I'll "suffer" through July and August in Tucson just to enjoy near perfect weather for the remaining ten months.

And you do it quite well, I might add!

Heard on the news tonight that the latest 100º day in Tucson was October 15th (or there abouts) and this rash of warm September weather is summer unusually prolonged. Looked on my calendar from last year and noticed I made an entry that on September 12th I turned on the heat for the first time. Not so this year...still running the AC... and my TEP bill reflects that.
