I think Cicadas are just about everywhere in this country. They have been in the midwest as long as I remember. I'm used to them and just tune them out.

When I was a kid my parents had some land in Wisconsin near the Dells and you heard them there all the time.

These are sometines called Locusts but I don't think the are the same. These Cicadas come every year but Locusts only come every 14 or 17 years depending on the type.

I thought the locusts were always around and the cicadas were the ones that were every 17 years. Hmm... All I know is there's a big difference when the 17 year ones come around (or at least in MD there was). They were there a few years ago, and my BIL was scooping them up w/a snow shovel in his car-port.

They crawl out of the ground and find their way up a tree to cling to, and grow their wings. have you ever noticed the round holes in the ground about the size of the end of your pinkie finger and wondered what could have done that?
