My dad was taking a trip to some part of Texas to hunt javalina with a buddy of his. They got this crazy old redneck 'guide' to take them all over parts of the desert and shoot the little things. About a week before he left, I saw a program on TV that said the best way to disable an attaching javalina was to grab it's back legs and lift them up. Why? Because the things can't twist around to gore you, they're too stocky to bend like that.

Who knows how you're supposed to get BEHIND the thing.

Ahh... javelina. Hairy things that go BUMP in the night! A herd of these piggies came by one evening last year and almost knocked over our lamp post out front - the scoundrels! How do I know? A neighbor saw them congregating out there around dusk!

Now... next question: Are javelina the Southwest's version of the South's Razorback hog? I'll bet they're cuzzins!

BTW, there are a couple of interesting places here in Tucson with similar names: The Javelina Cantina, a favorite "watering hole" at the Doubletree on Alvernon, and JAVAlina's Coffee and Friends in Rita Ranch. Yep - another coffee place!

Changing the name is a mistake. JAVAlina was a SOLID coffeehouse name! You know, like Le Buzz, Cafe Ole', and Jitters (in Flagstaff)...

What are they gonna call it now - The Caffeine Canteen?

Hmmm... cool to keep at least JAVA...

At least they're thinking halfway straight!

But then again... what does the word Starbucks have to do with coffee?

I have been here 6 months and this is the first time I have seen these critters other than at the desert museum...
No more dangerous than any other "threatened" wild animal, Millie.

Other than being Butt Ugly and Stink, they are as afraid of you as you are of them. Just be certain they never become "cornered" and you will be just fine.

This is good to know....I was afraid because there was just so many of them. The only wild animal I would see on my front lawn in NJ were squirrils and maybe an occasional racoon digging in the trash.

Actually, the "avoid threatening and/or cornering" rule applies to those wild critters as well.

I didn't even notice that. I went to their website and they had it on there. They joined the "Java Edge" family. Javalina's sounded so much more fun!

Welcome to Javalinas, a Southeast Tucson Coffeehouse with free Wi-fi in Rita Ranch
