...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES...

IN ARKANSAS...
BENTON...CARROLL...WASHINGTON...MADISON.

IN OKLAHOMA...
OSAGE...WASHINGTON...NOWATA...CRAIG...OTTAWA...PAW NEE...TULSA...
ROGERS...MAYES...DELAWARE...CREEK...OKFUSKEE...OKM ULGEE...
WAGONER...CHEROKEE...ADAIR...MUSKOGEE...MCINTOSH.

A LARGE COLD CANADIAN AIR MASS WILL BUILD OVER THE REGION
TODAY AND TONIGHT. THIS AIRMASS WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE A CONDUIT
OF SURFACE SUB FREEZING AIR INTO OUR REGION THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

WARM AIR ABOVE THE SUB FREEZING AIR AND WEATHER DISTURBANCES
MOVING SOUTH OF OUR REGION WILL SET THE STAGE FOR SLEET AND
FREEZING RAIN OVER PARTS OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

THIS SITUATION OFTEN RESULTS IN SIGNIFICANT FREEZING RAIN OR
SLEET FOR OUR AREA. AREAS FROM ABOUT INTERSTATE 44 NORTHWEST ARE
ALMOST ASSURED OF A MIXTURE OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET. PLACES
SOUTH OF A MCALESTER TO FORT SMITH LINE WILL BE WARM ENOUGH THAT
SIGNIFICANT FREEZING RAIN IS LESS LIKELY...AT LEAST THROUGH THE
DAY TUESDAY. HOWEVER...EVEN A SLIGHT CHANGE IN THE TRACK OF THE
SYSTEM COULD GIVE EVEN SOUTHEAST SECTIONS PERIODS OF A WINTRY MIX
AS WELL.

AT THIS TIME..IT LOOKS LIKE THE MOST LIKELY AREA OF SIGNIFICANT
ICE ACCUMULATION WILL BE NEAR AN OKMULGEE OKLAHOMA TO EUREKA
SPRINGS ARKANSAS AXIS. HOWEVER...SLIGHT WARMING OR COOLING AT
THE SURFACE WILL SHIFT WHERE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT FREEZING RAIN
OCCURS.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS A SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATION OF ICE OR
SLEET IS EXPECTED IN THE WATCH AREA.

RESIDENTS IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD PREPARE FOR WINTER STORM
CONDITIONS. MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS WINTERIZED AND IN GOOD WORKING
ORDER. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF FOOD...WATER
AND THE NECESSARY MEDICATION TO LAST THROUGH THE DURATION OF THE
WINTER STORM.

SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATION ON TREES AND POWER LINES MAY
OCCUR...WHICH COULD CAUSE POWER OUTAGES. DO NOT GO NEAR DOWNED
LINES... ASSUME THEY ARE LIVE AND REPORT ANY DOWNED LINES OR POWER
OUTAGES TO YOUR ELECTRIC COMPANY.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...COMMERCIAL RADIO OR TELEVISION
FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS DEVELOPING WINTER
WEATHER EVENT. ADDITIONAL WEATHER INFORMATION CAN ALSO BE FOUND
AT: National Weather Service Forecast Office - Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Starting Monday night? I doubt the schools will let out unless it gets pretty bad pretty quick

We have dodged the bullet several times this winter. We are due for an ice storm. Better load up on my hot chocolate and stew meat!

Won't know that until the school boards make that decision. Unless we're positive we're in for a huge event. then usually they don't decide until the night before or even closer, around 5 am.

If it follows this forecast, and I were a betting man, I'd put the over/under on days out at 1, possibly 2.

But really, it doesn't matter what we think.

We were discussing this this morning, and don't even know. What is the difference between freezing rain AND an ice storm. We were thinking, if the freezing rain lasts and lasts and starts building up, then maybe it becomes an ice storm??? Inquiring minds want to know. Could Google it I suppose, but I thought from the "horses-mouth" would be more understandable.

Thanks, FCB

We at St. Mary's School had business as usual during the last storm. The streets were fine all around the school and I saw no snow on my drive to work. Some of the kids that live in BA didn't come in those two days. Time will tell.

I've noticed they're predicting rain and maybe some ice in our area as well but I just don't see it coming. I sure hope that you folks up there in Tulsa and the rest of Oklahoma don't have ANOTHER ice storm. These things are becoming far too typical for the area and are a huge hazard to property and life.

I'm hoping that we get some ice to bring down the branches that haven't fallen from last year's storm!
