Yes!! My wife and I will see the end of series 3 this Sunday night. We purchased seasons 1 and 2 and loaned them to my wife's mother and now she is a fan. Saw it on Masterpiece Theater and it was about 7 episodes per season.

I really liked Downton Abbey and still like it well enough. Just getting tired of it.

Maybe next season it will pique my interest a little more.

I feel that same way. Really was looking forward to every new season and then by the end of it was glad it was over. Never felt that way with any other Masterpiece program.

I loaned s 1 and 2 to my sil. When I loaned s3 after I watched what I hadn't seen I loaned her s3. I could tell when she saw the end.

She's happy about season 4 too.

A great link with more great links.

One would think that Mr. Branson could have authored the same critics... had he not sold out like so many on the left have found themselves to do.

Down On Downton: Why The Left Is Torching Downton Abbey

H/T, Instapundit
This is interesting. I *would* like to see an explanation of why the tea party makes American's love the show... I think its probably a lot more universal a reason. But its a hit all over the world and there must be something more fundamental about the appeal. I think it has it right that the Grantham family is not perfect, but a family. They at the end of the day are just people.

So are the servants, and they are all drawn so carefully. Like Upstairs, Downstairs, it dares to make them all very human and not parodies.

Good drama is about people viewed as people, not their class, titles, lack there of, wealth, poverty and so on. It's about their connections between family and beyond. That is also the thing which makes any good story universal, because on some level everyone can relate.

I suspect that its sweeping across the US (I don't know anyone who doesn't watch it) is that we don't necessarily get the class references, but can see the people behind them.

I think we here in the US watch Downton because it where most of us have roots, the UK and "class" and monarchy are so alien to us. It's like watching another world.

I think we like it because it is one big beautiful soap opera.
