I love it!!!!
Except for the seasons with Warren; even then I love Andy and the rest.
Same here, still watch it on Me-TV as often as possible. Agree couldn't stand Warren, huh, uh huh, huh, uh huh uh huh and so on, got on my nerves and besides nobody could replace Barney.
I love this show in black and white. Frankly I prefer these shows since they speak to my basic nature, which was formed when I was a kid watching them.
I like watching the British productions now over most American TV. Foyles War, Poirot, Doc Martin, Sherlock Holmes, Downton Abbey, and so forth. These shows are pure quality, of a similar nature as Mayberry IMO.
I watched it when it was new. It was actually a spin off from the Danny Thomas Show when Danny was stopped for speeding in Mayberry. Andy Griffith developed his character from a comedy routine he did. Just a great family show about values.
Does anyone else enjoy watching the black and white versions of Andy of Mayberry of TV Land? Barney is a hoot, but the shows are all about kindness and doing the right thing but always in a way that teaches so many lessons that are missing from today's society. Just wonderin'
You bet I do! We were going to spring for the DVDs of this show, but read somewhere that they don't include the opening titles with the iconic whistling, so we just tape the episodes.
Not only did it reflect a simple, country life, but also I loved the character of Andy Taylor. There were a lot of dads showcased on TV in this era, but I don't recall one as expressive with his child as Taylor. And the way he'd humor that kid was priceless.
As far as the episodes, there are too many favorites to mention: I loved the Bass family, and Barney dancing cheek-to-cheek with another character still makes me laugh. The episode in which Aunt Bee's introduced is adorable, too ("Aunt Bee's birthday bed jacket" is another favorite). And who could forget Gomer's "Citizen's aray..est, citizen's aray...est!
Black and white or not, these shows are a treasure and just as crisp and clear as if they were filmed yesterday!

Like the important lesson that alcoholism is funny?
