I hope so, its the only sci fi show i record because i have to work. I really like it and the AVIS script was funny as eff.. then throw in HERTz was even better.. It will get its footing soon and hopefully we can get more in-debt drama with mix comedy out of it.

It may be my intel background, but I could not abide them going into enemy territory with absolute ignorance of anything about the enemy culture and not being discovered within the first five minutes. That just went beyond my ability to suspend disbelief.

I had to fast-forward through all that to get to the part where they had been discovered and were being pursued.

Sort of like going undercover on Romulan ship a year after finding out that they look like Vulcans

If The Last Man on Earth and Brooklyn Nine-Nine can make it until they have enough episodes for syndication, I think you can bet on the Orville making it that long.
Of course, what was the Tim Allen show that got whacked? Not by Fox, but.. Still, it had decent ratings and still got the Axe.

I would say as well that the Orville is probably a fairly expensive show to produce.. So.. It's got that against it.

They're up against Thursday Night Football which pulls right from their target age demo

Zap2it has it listed as likely to be renewed. Cancel Bear vs. FOX, week 3: ‘The Gifted’ should be rewarded with a second season – TV By The Numbers by zap2it.com

Ratings.. Orville is the #3 show at 9pm behind Will & Grace and Scandal. It's actually improving audience from its lead-in of Gotham. Gotham has about 2.69 million viewers, while the Orville has 3.38

I was only in high school when that episode first aired, so my sensitivity was much less.

Also, I wanted to add that since we really don't know anything about dark matter storms, the dark matter storm could have been in that area of space that the Orville encountered it for years, or for decades, or even for millennia. However, the way that people who have this 'diverted for Pria' theory make it sound as if either the Orville changed course because of rescuing Pria, and because of that, they went in a different direction that they otherwise wouldn't have gone in.... or perhaps... the dark matter storm suddenly appeared and if the Orville had not have rescused Pria and had arrived at that area of space, say around 20 minutes earlier, then they would have missed it.

P.S. And no wonder that episode was so good... Jonathan Frakes directed it.

Last Man Standing had 130 episodes. Any show that has that many episodes will bring in money for decades in syndication. The actors want a piece of that money, but there is a cash flow problem. The actors are mostly paid up front, but the money comes in long term.

Logically you would think that Modern Family and TBBT would be brought down by their salaries which together account for 11 of the top 20 earners in television according to Forbes.

SEP 28, 2017 @ Forbes
The world’s highest-paid TV actors between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017.
1. Sofia Vergara $41,500,000
2. Jim Parsons $27,500,000
3. Johnny Galecki $26,500,000
4. Kaley Cuoco $26,000,000
5. Simon Helberg $26,000,000
6. Kunal Nayyar $25,000,000

7. Mark Harmon $19,000,000 NCIS
8. Ty Burrell $13,500,000
9. Mindy Kaling $13,000,000 AMAZON
9. Ellen Pompeo $13,000,000 GRAY's ANATOMY
11. Mariska Hargitay $12,500,000 LAW & ORDER
11. Eric Stonestreet $12,500,000
13. Julie Bowen $12,000,000
13. Ed O'Neill $12,000,000
13. Kevin Spacey $12,000,000 NETFLIX
16. Jesse Tyler Ferguson $11,000,000
16. Kerry Washington $11,000,000 SCANDAL
18. Priyanka Chopra $10,000,000 QUANTICO
19. Robin Wright $9,000,000 NETFLIX
20. Pauley Perrette $8,500,000 NCIS

But it would appear that the middle shows get cancelled more easily after they have enough episodes for syndication.

You will note that ABC has 9 of the stars in the top list while NBC has only one. But in general NBC has higher ratings than ABC.

The Orville has some pretty serious storylines. Despite it's campy exterior I would say that the story lines are more serious than those in Star Trek which deal with issues like racism in very veiled terms.

This episode had a very intriguing premise and comment on social media, but I thoroughly dislike "dummy plots" when there is a plot only because a lead character is a dummy.

Have they never heard of reconnaissance?
