Fact: it may be a classic now but During its run, it never ranked In the Top 30 of most watched TV Programs. It was not a popular show while it was n the air.
I think longevity should be a pretty big factor in the success of a show even more than it's placing in the top of the ratings. I think a show that lasted over 10 or 20 years is far more successful than a show that lasted less than 10 years but managed to crack the top of the ratings. Syndication is such a huge goal that most shows strive for because that's when the big money comes in and more viewers are able to watch the show on multiple networks and platforms for generations to come.
